Within this essay i will be speaking about, objectivity, subjectivity and representation. All these are important within the Media as whatever get shown on the television has to be impartial to everybody.
Objectivity is the reporting of reality and facts without the input of prejudice and personal opinion. An example of this would be Question time which is aired on the BBC, it allows people to ask the chosen members of the government different questions about various things, it also gives them a chance to respond. The response needs to include a valid point that has been tested against facts, this means the BBC are not providing the public with false information as you can see by the answers being backed with evidence.
Objectivity is included in the programme question time by allowing the different members of government to answer with their opinion that has been tested against facts, for example when Nick griffin was asked the question 'why would Churchill be in the BNP if he was alive now, and why did you hijack his reputation?' the response Nick Griffin gave included objectivity, because he used quotes and facts for example 'no other party would have him for what he said in the early days to mass immigration to this country, quote only coming from our benefit system, and in his younger days he was extremely critical of the dangers fundamentalist islam in a way which would now be described as islamifobic'. In that quote you can see how Nick Griffin has backed up his answer and has done his research to make the answer valid.
The BBC’s most relevant example of impartiality is in the show ‘Daily politics’. Impartiality is ‘decisions that should be based on objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias or prejudice’. They show this in the show ‘Daily politics’ for example on this show the presenter allows everybody from every side to have a say and to voice their opinion, for example the presenter let Gabby Hensley from the guardian to voice her opinion on ‘British intelligent agency’s looked at their American counter parts before publication of that US reporter on CIA torturing terrorism suspects’ he then asked Gabby who works for the guardian then allowed Andrew Peers from the daily mail to voice his opinion, this is a clear example of being impartial as the presenter for the program on BBC is allowing not just one person to speak, the response the presenter gives also is not biased for example ‘your both singing from the same song sheet’. The reason the BBC are impartial is because it is a public service broadcaster, which is paid for through peoples tax’s, so because everybody pays for it they aren’t allowed to have their own beliefs because everybody has different.
The final thing i will be speaking about is representation. The media represents Britain through many different ways, for example the BBC have a show called "posh people: Tatler" it gives various different views of Britain as it is an episode on the magazine Tatler which has its target audience of high society respectable people. It highlights different areas of the upper class community and gives others an insight on how people live.
The magazine gives the different options on which boarding school to take your child to if you are in the high society class as it can cost upto £20,000 per year just to enrol, it also shows how young people attend the Tatler ball in which the up coming young teens of the high class get invited to in which they are potential buyers to the tatler in the future, by doing this they can be added into the latest issue of Tatler and get there pictures put on the front cover of the teen edition. By doing this the BBC are representing Britain to be very respectable and high class but the editors of the magazine are not trying to offend any of the people who may buy the edition and not be in the target audience market, as they try not to hurt the feelings or offend those of a lower class than represented in the magazine. The magazine shows how different people live in Britain especially if they have money which is giving Britain the view of being a rich and lawful country that also respects the feelings of others and is not snotty to those who are not is in the same social class as they are.
By doing this they are giving a sense of caring and thoughtful views upon Britain and even though those in the upper class of people may seem 'snotty' and posh they are infact very intelligent and thoughtful citizens of Britain that also think not only for themselves but for others, putting a light and positive effect on the views given to Britain.

Paper work for documentary
This is the story board i created for my documentary. I created this storyboard to give myself an insight in what my documentary is going to include. My final documentary docent really match my storyboard because of different circumstances, For example transport and various different things, but i used every advantage i could have used to create my documentary.
This is an actor release form, i had to fill out one of these for many reasons, the main reason was to show the interviewee that this footage they are included in may have to go on various different networks and different media , it is also used to make the interviewee aware that no fee is payable for their performance.
I had to fill out a recce for each different places i filmed at, for example i shot kayleigh's interview at Hyde Clarendon sixth form college, on this sheet i included all the shooting information, lighting information, sound information and power information. You fill this out beforehand in order to have no mistakes when filming, it is much easier to have one of these. When you get to your location you can then just set up to the way you have described and film therefore it won't be time consuming.
I then had to fill in a risk assessment for each bit of filming i did, for example this is also Kayleigh's interview. A risk assessment is very important you choose your location and decide beforehand what would be a risk to you, the interviewee and the equipment, this way there will no damage to any property, and nobody will get hurt.
This is also all the paperwork i had to do for Kimberley's interview , this includes a risk assessment, an actor release form, a recce and also a risk assessment, all these documents are very important because without them you can't continue with your filming.
This is my shot list, this includes each individual shot that is included in my documentary and how long its duration is and also what type of shot it is, for example cut away or interview.
These were the dates i shot all my documentary, i did them on different days because it was very time consuming. I did this in order to make it easier for myself knowing where i was going and when i was going, therefore i didn't have to do any messing about.
This is my personal production log, i did this to explain what i filmed and how i filmed it, i described all the obstacles what got in the way and how i overcome them, i also explained that i had finished my documentary and what i would have done to make it better.

Rationale for documentary
The
documentary I will be conducting is based on the music of Manchester within the
80’s and 90’s. I will be filming various different scenes and conducting many
different interviews, such as human-interest interviews, witness interviews and
maybe expert interviews. One of the interviews I will be conducting is with my
older sister Kimberley; this will be filmed in her home with good lighting and
no echoing so the footage is suitable, I will be asking her various questions
such as ‘what influenced you to listen to the music that you listen to?’ and
many other different questions which you will see in the documentary, Along
with many other different interviews with many different people. I will be
visiting the city of Manchester and filming some of the well-known clubs and
places of the 80’s and 90’s such as where the hacienda was, Salford lads club
and various other different places. This
is to show the type of places that were big in them years and where most famous
groups started off. I will be highlighting
many different aspects of music, and how it influences people and why they
choose to listen to what they listen to. I will be using various different
types of camera shots/angles such as close ups, long shots and medium shots as
well as many others, I will be doing this to put across my knowledge ad
understanding of various different ways to use the camera.
There will be many different codes and conventions, which I will be using in my documentary. The first one being a voice over, I will be using a voice over within my documentary to explain different things whilst showing observational footage, I also may use a voice over in my interview and be showing different types of footage of different relevant places whilst interviewing to give the viewers a deeper understanding.
Another code and convention I will be using within my documentary will be observational footage, I will be using this for many reasons one being cut-aways, and I will be showing various different places within Manchester and inserting this into my documentary. I may also be able to pick up footage from back in the day and also insert this into my documentary.
I will also be conducting interviews, which is another code and convention for my documentary, I will be conducting human-interest interviews, and possibly witness interviews depending on which people allow the interview to take place. I will be conducting these interviews within my documentary because they will be interesting to the audience, and it is also a good code and convention to use within a documentary.
There will also be many other different codes and conventions what will be used within my documentary which may be improvised when making my documentary.
When making this documentary I will be professional and impartial, meaning that I will not judge anybody I interview or anybody who is taking part in my documentary on their taste of music and opinions. Within my documentary I will also be non-biased which means when conducting the interviews I will take their answer into consideration and not contribute myself with any personal opinion, thoughts or views. Whilst making this documentary I will also be balanced to those who are taking part in my documentaries meaning I will be highlighting all different sides in order to be balanced to everybody. For example if asking the question ‘who influenced you to listen to the music you do’ I will not subject them into telling me an answer what isn’t right, and I will also ask them other different questions so all the questions aren’t subjected to just one thing.

codes and conventions presentation.
This is a presentation which i did about codes and conventions of a documentary and the news, hopefully it will give you a better understanding of the different codes and conventions of the news.
On this slide i discussed the codes and conventions of the news at 10, i had to watch a clip off BBC iplayer and i explained a presenter within the news and graphics within the news.
I then discussed more codes and conventions of the news at 10. I discussed what a field reporter is and what their job is within the news at 10, and i also discussed a voice over and what its job is within the news.
I then discussed the BBC3 60 second news, i did this to show the differences in the two different types of news, i discussed a voice over, observational footage, and interviews.
After focusing on the news i then discussed a documentary called 'Johns not mad' i discussed this to also show the differences in the codes and conventions of a documentary and the news, i discussed interviews and observational footage.
I then discussed the follow up documentary to 'Johns not mad' it had a few changes within this documentary, i discussed a voice over and observational footage.
I then discussed a documentary called 'Live forever'. i did this type of documentary because it was relates to the documentary that i will be producing which is based on 'manchester music'.
I then discussed the differences in the two different news shows that i analysed, i did this to show people all codes and conventions are used differently in different shows.
I then discussed the differences within the two documentaries that i analysed, also to show that the codes and conventions that have been used aren't the same in both documentaries.

Codes and conventions of the news at 10.
On this blog post i will be analysing the different codes and conventions within the news at 10. The reason i am doing this is to give myself a better understanding of what the News includes, and how the News makes the programme more watchable for different audiences.
One of the codes and conventions which is included in the News at 10 is a voice over, a voice over is a piece of narration in a film or broadcast, not accompanied by an image of the speaker. The voice over is a very important code and convention of the News, mainly because it makes the News more interesting for the viewers, instead of just sitting their listening to a presenter. Voice over is also a good code and convention in the News because it allows the audience to get a deeper understanding by listening to the voice over whilst maybe watching something.
Another code and convention what is included in the News is a field reporter, A field reporter is somebody that gets sent to a location where something is taking place to present the story and show the surrounding location. This is good because it is directly aiming the story at the audience, and they will feel valued. A field reporter is also good because by having one of these because it shows the location of where the things that are being spoke about are taking place, which allows the audience to have a better understanding.
One other different type of codes and conventions which takes place in the News is different types of graphics. Funky graphics are normally taken place when the presenter is speaking about the facts and figures, they include funky graphics on the news to present it like a professional type of presentation. By using these different types of graphics it makes the audience more interested in what is going on and dosent loose their attention to the news.
Another code and convention within a documentary is hard news and soft news. Hard news is news which is more serious such as attacks in france, and soft news is news which is important to some people but not as serious for example football. This is a good combination to have in the News because it isn't all serious, and it has something for everybody to watch.
Another code and convention within the news is a presenter. In the news the presenter is normally sat at a desk with a big screen behind her, she normally introduces the story very briefly and then she goes over to the field reporter. A presenter is always good for the news because it is more or less the stability of the news, she also introduces the news aswell as closing out the news.
Interviews are also another code and convention of the News, interviews are very important within the news, there are many different types of interviews, the news includes them all, but for example the news will be telling a story and then conduct an expert interview, (interview with expert) they do this so the audience can trust what is being said, but before that they normally conduct human interest interviews of peoples thoughts and opinions, and they also do witness interviews, this is the interview for people who have been in the experience, they do this for the audiences entertainment.
The final code and convention i noticed in the news is observational footage, observational footage is brilliant to be included in the news because it entertains the viewers and it also allows the viewers to get a better understanding of what is going on and the story what is being told. Sometimes observational footage is also good for the audience feeling emotion, if the story is very distressing then the observational footage can move the audience and make them feel more emotion.

inter-links between different codes and conventions of a documentary
Links
There are many links between different codes and conventions of documentaries, one being a voice over and observational footage, these two codes and conventions link in with each other for many different reasons, for example if a voice over was in order and it had no visual footage along side it then the audience wouldn't be interested as they are just listening to somebody talking and not seeing anything what will be on screen to entertain them. By having a voice over and observational footage it allows the audience to have a better understanding of what is being said and shown in the documentary
